How many miles is too many miles?

I just got back into a Ranger after a two year absence and coming from a full size back to a Ranger made me realize I do need a Full Size. Long story short I fish a lot of tournaments and the last 4 trips towing the boat have made me miss the full size.

Anyway I've been looking at some 150's and I realize it all comes down to maintenance and how the truck was driven but in your opinion how many miles are enough to make you not even look at a truck? My dad said " I wouldn't buy any thing with over 100k" but I feel like a truck with 100k with up to date maintenance is just getting broke in and still has a lot of life left..

Input is appreciated. Thanks

Hard to say... like you said it definitely depends on maintenance and how it was driven. I wouldn't say no to a truck just because it has high mileage. Not that I paid much for it but my Colorado has 365,000km. It was maintained very well and runs great!

A well maintained F150 will go over 500,000 miles. I have my '04 with nearly 300K miles listed on Ebay at Ford : F-150 XLT in Ford | eBay Motors (shameless plug) and it runs great.

Are you planning to get rid of the ranger? If not just buy an older F150 or diesel and that will suit your needs for towing the boat.

Still on the fence I had an 06 1500 dodge and it did everything I needed but I also had a 99 Cummins and that thing was awesome so im not sure.

If you sell the ranger get something newer, if you keep it get something older. Thats my opinion.

I personally probably wouldn't buy a used gas vehicle with over 100k unless I knew for a fact what the history is on it...like if a family member or friend has had it since it was new. I'd consider buying something with over 100k if it was the right price, and it was a 2nd vehicle or a toy.

I'd buy a diesel with over 100k...but not over 150k.

Like others have said, it all depends on maintenence. Buying used vehicles is a gamble. My dads 07 Chevy has 280k miles on it...all put on by him. But he has always maintained it and it runs great.

If you're handy with repairs, I would go up to the 200k mark. I've purchased trucks with more (My 7.3 has 265k). I'm a mechanic though and do all of my own repairs.

I agree with Wyldechild, i think those are good guidelines. But if you keep the ranger just buy an old diesel haha

I wish it were that simple. I gave up my career to go back to school while I'm still young. I'm going to list the truck locally and hopefully I can get what I want for it.
