Which Ranger trim level is at the top vs. bottom end?

Which Ranger trim level is at the top vs. bottom end?

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge and have received mixed information on what trim level the Edge falls into. When I bought the Edge I was told it was a Factory "lifted" model and was top end trim. That floored me because it had no power anything for the doors, and rubber floors instead of carpet.

Last week a man told me the Edge was the stripped down model.

I'm confused. So, is there a chart somewhere that describes the trim levels?

In 2005 the EDGE package was 3rd of 5 models, but it really isn't that simple since you could mix and match options on any model, so EDGE could be XL with some body trim, upgraded vinyl flooring and AC, so no Power Group(windows/door locks)

Read here for base package info: 2005 Ford Ranger - Ford-Trucks.com

What you can do to find out what you actually have is to get your VIN number and go to a Ford Dealer and ask for a reprint of the Window Sticker, you WILL have to pay for this, no I don't know how much.
But it will have all options listed for the day it was sold to 1st owner

Online sites that do this are either fake(take the money and run) or Ford sites that only go back 5 to 10 years, so..............be aware of that

Depending on how the Edge was optioned, it could be at the top or bottom. Suspension wise, fits the same height and components as a 4x4 minus the front axle part. Inside is where the line was drawn. It only came with vinyl floor, but could be optioned up or down to include cruise, power windows, and power locks. Outside, you get the color matched bumpers and fender flares. XLT typically has chrome bumpers.

The edge is an oddball, from what I've seen.

My father used to own an 01 edge in black with body matched front and rear bumpers. It had no power windows, mirrors, or locks. However, it did have a six CD changer, cruise control and tilt steering. It also came with the aluminum alloy 'D slot' wheels. It was the 4x2 with the 4.0 SOHC and automatic tranny, but at the 4x4 height.

Inversely, my father's new 2003 Edge is sonic blue again with body matched bumpers (swapped out later for chrome and grey), power locks, mirrors and windows, but no cruise control, no tilt, and the player was the AM/FM with CD and cassett. It's wheels were the painted silver spokes. It was a 4x2 with the 3.no and automatic transmission at the 4x4 height.

The edge is a real pick-n-mix it seems.

Honestly, the Ranger trim levels are all a pick-n-mix seemingly, as my 99 XLT (what I believe to be the heighest level for that year) has cruise and tilt but no power anything, but it does have the aluminum tenslot wheels, 4x4, and the 3.no with the auto transmission.

Go figure.

I think the 01-03 Sonic Blue Edge (either in 4x2 or 4x4) is my favorite style of Ranger.

It is definitely a wonderful color. Esspecially after a good bumper to bumper wash, claybar, and wax job.

Then again, that brings out the shine in everything. Really brings a car back.

Okay, so does the Edge package include a "Lift"?
Mine seems to be taller than most of the other rangers I've seen out there.
In fact, it sits quite level and my butt isn't quite tall enough to enter easily.

An Edge should set at the same height as 4WD Rangers. If it sits level, a previous owner probably cranked the torsion bars to raise the front. It is doesn't ride rough, it is fine that way.

Well, My Edge does ride a tad rough. Actually it is pretty harsh compared to the Chevy's I've driven. It does sit level, and though it looks great like that, I may have to crank them torsion bars down just a wee bit.

That man lied to you ... A Ranger XL is the "stripped" down model.
I used to have a 2003 red 4X4 Ranger EDGE that was loaded with all the options.
The only thing you couldn't get in an EDGE was carpet and that's because the vinyl flooring with the octagon pattern was part of the EDGE package but I will say this though ... it's very common to see the EDGEs and the Sports with manual windows and locks with no cruise control and the jumps seats in the back of a 2-door extended cab are deleted out in the 2004-2005 models.

No, It doesn't have a lift, it just has the 4X4 torsion bar frame.
It's only missing 1 of 3 brackets that holds the front diff. in place.
I actually had someone weld on that missing stabilizing bracket and converted my 2WD frame to a 4X4.

Edges are different because there is an Edge package and an Edge Plus package. Your edge plus will have all the interior goodies while the edge will not. They carry the same suspension and exterior features.

FX/4
XLT
Edge
XL

This is the way I always looked at it, but honestly more my opinion then anything else. I think there should be no doubt the FX/4 should be at the top of the heap as it came with so many goodies as standard. After that, as others have stated, the waters get a little muddied.
