Just bought my '06 ranger ( FX4 offroad) I'd like to swap the rear brakes to disk brakes if possible. I've seen a few kits available to do this, but most of them mention that it wont work specifically with the offroad package... what in the heck is the actual differences between the FX4 and the FX4 offroad that would lead to this discrepancy? Is the rear axle a different size? What other differences am I going to run into while working on this truck? Please help me gather some info on what makes this truck so much different.

 

In 2006 there was no plain "FX4", there was FX4 Off Road and FX4 Off Road Level II

The Level II had the Torsen rear axle which was different than the Ford 8.8" axle which you have, so you should be fine to do a "kit conversion"
