06 ranger fuel pump?

My 2006 ford ranger is currently having fuel pump issues. The inertia switch was melted through so I removed it, i believe either the circuit is shorted or it's the fuel pump itself. So here's the problem, my relay is heating up obviously receiving to much voltage but my fuse isn't blowing. What are yalls thoughts? I have had the truck going on 3 months. It has just over 140k on it which I have read isn't bad for a ranger. Just dont want to go out and buy a new pump I'f it isn't the problem.

Welcome to the forum

The voltage doesn't change the AMPs being used by the device or wires changes

The 20amp fuel pump fuse is there for dead shorts, fuel pump itself should only pull 6-8amps thru the relay, inertia switch and wiring.
Reads like your pump it pulling too many amps.

Swap to a 10amp fuse and see if it blows

But yes it reads like you will need to swap fuel pumps.

But one other thing to check first.

As voltage goes down AMPs go up, so corroded connections increase amp draw thru the circuit.

Measure voltage at the battery using a volt meter, 12.3 to 12.8volt is a good battery
Turn on the key, measure voltage at inertia switch wire
Should be exactly the same
But the voltage will only be there for 2 seconds, so hook up the volt meter and then turn on the key, voltage should go up to "Battery Voltage" then it will drop down to 5-8volts, that is normal.
Turn key off and on as much as you need to to see high voltage level

If voltage at inertia switch wire is not getting full battery voltage swap out FP Relay, and check connectors in its socket, could be corroded.
