I have an 86 ranger extra cab it’s got a 6040 split bench can anybody tell me which years of Ford ranger I can take a seat out of and bolted directly in and still have access to the backseat?

You can use any year, 1983 to 2011, just keep your frames and unbolt the old seats then bolt the new seats to the old frames
In around 2001 Ford started to weld frames to seats, so you would need to cut frame off and then drill holes to bolt seats on to your frames

The frames did change over the years but................pretty much any year Ranger/Mazda B-series can be re-drilled to match your 1986 attachment points
Best chance of exact match will be 1983-1992, 1st generation Ranger, but they will be pretty worn out seats, lol

On any seat swap YOU have to check that the back rest part of the seat will fold forward, on each side, because there is no 100% "this year will work"
Even another 1986 extended cab seat may not have a fold forward back rest, it would be rare, but that's the point of checking, lol
That's one of the problems with 4-door Explorer seats

And heads up............many people have done seats swaps, so just because the seats came out of a 1996 Ranger, doesn't mean they are 1996 Ranger seats, they could have been swapped in by previous owner
