1994 Ford Ranger XLT automatic transmission
I didn't see this anywhere else and forgive me if it's the wrong forum...
I want to change the sound my door chime module makes. I know where the module is located(behind the stereo to the left) but I'm not sure where to go from there. Haven't ACTUALLY gotten in there and pulled the thing out yet. I keep hearing the 94 Rangers have a different set up for the door chime whereas the later models have it in a GEM module that is generally in the same spot. Can anyone confirm? And beyond that, if I could get the specific piece out that is responsible for the door chime sound, how the heck would I modify it to say, play the NES Super Mario Bros. theme? lol.

I have a 2004 Ranger Supercab XLT and I was wondering the same thing. I believe my chime is located behind the speedo, integrated with the large circuit board that also controls idiot lights and gauges. If I am correct, it is now (or then) a simple, two-pronged, piezo speaker. I would like to have the Sonic Hedgehog theme play as my Ranger is Sonic Blue...I think it is one of the best colors Ford formulated.
Anyway, I am really amazed, and sorry, that you didn't get any replies to your post. I would have jumped in with an answer if I knew one to share. Have you found a way yet? If so, I would like to know what you learned. If not, let me know and if I learn more I will be happy to share.
Cheers!

June 25, 2018 UPDATE
A cricket in the yard at night (2:55am yes, I have chronic insomnia) is +- 9dBA: also compared to "Rustling Leaves." Taking advantage of the early morning quiet in the Tucson Mountains, I tested the decibels level of the factory door chime, using my LG G7 ThinQ, at 34dBA while sitting in the driver's seat; 50dBA held up to the dash (one inch from the piezo); and 52dBA held in the stereo cut-out of the sub-dash bezel. I am replacing the Factory Pioneer with a newer/smarter Pioneer model, so access was already there. I ordered the PUI Audio record-able 12VDC speaker from Mouser Electronics for $25.08 (including USPS Priority Shipping @ $7.99). Amazon was a couple dollars more with a Prime Membership.
The PUI Part Number is API-4260-LW150-R. The Mouser Part Number is 665-API-4260-LW150-R. The speaker is programmable via mini USB (v 1, 1.1 or 2.0 only) and boasts a 100dBA maximum volume. That is a gas lawnmower at 3ft! It is said to be able to record 30 seconds of WAV or MP3 up to 12kHz with distortion expected above 2KHz (for us not-so-much-know-it-some's, note the k and the K). I should test the amp-draw of the piezo before I remove it from the bread board. If it isn't enough, I will go the relay-route.
I am replacing the Instrument Cluster with the US Speedo Aqua Edition, but I am going to see how I like the new PUI mod'ed door chime on the stock cluster, first. Also nice to have the new cluster available if I muck the stock one up. The PUI is quite a bit larger than the piezo, so I am thinking I will extend the leads a few inches and mount the speaker behind the sub-dash, near the stereo...maybe in the center HVAC vent? Hmmm, maybe add a USB mini extension down to the console so I can easily connect to my laptop and re-record another MP3 to suit my mood. We shall tell all when I am done. I will transfer the speaker to the new cluster if all goes well. I will update with some experience notes and photos when I do the mod.
Mouser has some very detailed spec sheets for the speaker on their website. Amazon doesn't have the spec info I wanted.
Wish me luck!
Rob

And you may need two relays depending on the Chimes setup.
Use a volt meter on the speakers two wires and see if it is steady when active or it varies, to make the "bing, bing, bing" noise, often the voltage is steady and the on/off is done IN the speaker, like a Flasher relay for turn signals.
If voltage is steady then just 1 relay is needed.
