1997 3.0 Heater not working but heater core is hot!
Hi everyone, I’ve replaced thermostat and both coolant temp sensors one that talks to the computer and the one that goes to the dash. My heat gage is working intermittently and I’ve got no heat coming from the fan blowing nice and strong. There was a hole cut under the glove box where you can reach in and touch the heater core and it is super hot. I taped and sealed the hole back up and also replaced the heater valve just on outside of the fire wall.
i don’t really have a decent sheltered place to tear out the whole heater core and replace if I wanted to but could it be anything else?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum
So the Blend Door works?
Thats the door inside that controls air direction coming from the fan, air either goes thru the heater core(HOT) or around the heater core(COLD
The TEMP **** controls this door
You cut the hole
So with key on could you see the Blend Door moving when you adjusted the TEMP ****?
And with Fan on HIGH could you feel the air coming in from engine bay?

Yeah, the hole was already cut. Guy I bought from said it blew nice and hot. Well that was summer time so yeah it was hot alright!
to answer your question yes I can see the blower door move when I turn the dial for the heat. Opens and closes fully. If I leave my hand on the heater core it gets too hot to leave my hand there but won’t circulate any heat. I’ve got air blowing hard out of the vents.

Well that's really all there is
When blend door is "open" all the air coming from fan goes thru the heater core, so heated air, then goes out to the vents
Diagram here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...iag-gif.41768/
Firewall is between evaporator and Heater core
If air comes out hot at first then gets cooler heater core is clogged up
The air is cooling it down because of limited flow
You try Back Flushing
Use garden hose on heater hoses in engine bay and Flush it with water in BOTH directions, then put hose back on in reverse of what they are now, to continue back flushing while driving
