Icon4 1997 ranger putting a 1993 motor in it

I am working on replacing a motor I have a 1997 ford ranger and I am putting a 1993 ranger motor in to it. But I'm having some issues. The crank position sensor is in a different spot than a 1997 motor and the plug is different. I need some help please

Welcome to the forum

If it is a 4cyl 2.3l Ranger then you can't do that swap

1994 and earlier 2.3l used Hall effect Crank sensor, 1995 and later used Variable reluctance sensor.
Like trying to tune an FM radio station in on an AM radio, can't be done.
Not a wiring issue or connector, completely different "signal"
1994 and earlier also used a different computer than 1995 and later so can't even change the computer

Sell the 1993 and buy a 1995 to 1997 2.3l

You could "try" rebuilding the front end of the motor, switching front engine covers but not sure the crank will match 1995 and up pulley which is needed for the crank sensor

Yes, it can, but swap complete head, i.e. cam, rockers and valves, as one unit

The 1995 and up used a different setup for valves

Good read here on the Lima engines: Ford Lima 2.3 SOHC Specs - myPOWERBLOCK

Google: ford 2.3l lima engine

For more info on whats the same and what isn't

Yes, head, cam and valves, not intake or exhaust

If funds permit get the head gasket kit, it will come with new valve stem seals.
Take those seals and the head to a machine shop, have them clean, surface and pressure test the head, and install the new seals.
Call around the prices can vary quit a bit, you have a 4 cyl SOHC head or tell them 2.3l LIMA head, a 2.3l Duratec head would cost alot more because it has two cams
SOHC is single over head cam

yes
in any engine replacement now-a-days you keep the intake manifold and exhaust from original vehicle and bolt them to the "other engine"
Just Block and head is what is swapped
In your case just the head is swapped
