2000 4cl tow questions.

Good evening. I recently purchased a 2000 4cyl Ranger from a girlfriend of mine. She wanted a grand, I took it to my local shop to have them look it over. They wanted $2k for the repairs (mostly front end stuff). I offered her $500, she accepted. I rebuilt the front end myself for around $400. Replaced the u joints and got it aligned. She quite tight now. Just took her took the mountains to camp in (found a $30 camper top). She drove great.

I came across a 1971 *** Campmaster pop up camper (900 lbs) in pristine condition and got it for $900. So here are my questions...I will buy a proper trailer hitch (Reese Towpower Class III?), I also want to add a transmission cooler, and perhaps a larger rad?

If anyone can steer me in the right direction for a hitch, and tranny cooler that would be great. Would I need a bigger rad?

Thank you in advance.

You wont need a larger radiator but the trans cooler is a must in my opinion. I have a 12x7" hayden (inexpensive universal unit that cost about 40 bucks at autozone or wherever) on my 09 2.3 which has the same transmission as yours and it works well. I often haul 4 kayaks and several hundred pounds of camping gear and never had an overheating issue. The 12x7" unit fits perfectly on one side in front of the AC condensor.

Thanks for the quick response. Seems cheap and easy enough. I should have noted it's an automatic with 192k. You have a recommendation for a tow hitch?

Not really, mine had one from the factory. Reese is a good brand though so not sure how you could go wrong there.

Any class III will be more than enough, prices will be $150 - 175. Reese or U-Haul are what I go with when buying new, chances are though a junkyard has a ranger with a factory hitch for less that $50.
