2001 Ford Ranger XL

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 2.3 5 Speed Manual transmission. Looking or trying to find any info on building the 2.3 into a daily driver but want to turbo the truck with little to minimum upgrade to do so any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

You have a 2.3l Mazda L engine, Ford renamed 2.3l Duratec, its a DOHC engine, so not to be confused with the 2.3l SOHC Lima engines used in 1983 to 1997 Rangers

Ford is using a 2.3l EcoBoost in the Mustangs and new Rangers(2019 and up) which is a turbo charged version based on the 2.3l Mazda L engine

The 2.3l Duratec runs 9.7:1 compression ratio so not a great candidate for turbo charging as is
Ford lowered the compression ratio to 9.5:1 and turbo charge it for the Ecoboost version

You might get away with under 5psi boost with as is components, but the problem with limited boost is that you will just want "a little more", lol, and the point at which something breaks is 1psi LESS than you just had when it broke, and you(no one) knows that number until something breaks

There have been a few that swapped in the 2.3l Ecoboost into older Rangers, which would be your best choice, Google: 2.3l Ecoboost in 2005 Ranger
That's one of the swaps

You're going to have more into it than you'd want. I am not even sure if anyone has cracked the OEM ECU, and because of that, you'd need to run a piggy back or full standalone system if you want any control over the tune.
