Well I'm still in Fiji driving this overseas Ranger. And I'm American and I love the hell out of this truck. There are some really, really bad roads here and this truck takes it like nothing. Ergonomically the seats, controls, are like a BMW for trucks. Some may think it looks like a sport trac which is a major POS based on a car chassis. This guy is mean. I know this forum likes the old Minn built Rangers. But I totally disagree this would not sell like hotcakes if it were made in its current form with 5 cylinder 3.2 diesel. Its a perfect size IMO. Hell, I had 5 Indo fijian indians somehow pack into the back seat yesterday driving to Lautoka Hospital. Over here, Driving a Ford is a real status symbol. Ford owns Toyota hilux. But I think people on this forum would go ape **** over a hilux. But that's going to cost even more then a ford.. Not a good value. Decent truck but the Ranger will destroy it, in every category there is to measure. Tons more torque, much stronger chassis, more interior room, better ride etc.. This truck is designed by Ford Australia and build for the outbacks. I've actually driven in 900 mm of water no sweat. No water coming into the interior as well. Build quality is outstanding. I've had zero issues with it and that has never happened with any new Truck or car I have purchased since 1977. If I had the choice of paying the same for a American F-150 or the 5 cylinder diesel Ranger, well I think you know which one I would choose. The US will never get engines like this, unless the EPA loosens up. But they are putting the 3.2 into the transit in the US. So maybe there is hope. I don't care what design Ranger they come up with, I just want that engine in a Ford Truck in the US when I come back after my business is done in Fiji. That is a great motor, you better believe it.

IMO, the best mid size truck currently in production globally is the Ranger. What I am saying is the Ranger is the best money can buy that is currently manufactured. The old Ranger obviously is dead and will never come back. Ford wanted to kill that union and truck for years, and it lasted longer then they had planned but once they killed it, you better believe nothing like that will ever come back. The gas guzzler Tacoma is pure junk to the global Ranger. The frontier or diesel version of that the Navara is dated.. bad ride, old engine and heavy. Mitsubishi L200 is ok if you like tiny diesel trucks. Isuzu D max makes a nice diesel truck but left the North America markets years ago... the Ford still destroys it. But does offer a bit more value for the money and is good on fuel. Isuzu makes good diesels. I'm just saying, Ford makes the best mid size truck at the moment. You can choose a different brand based on body style, but in every other way, you will compromise MPG, performance, ride and comfort. I know, I've driven all those models over here. In the US, there is no hope for mid size at the moment. The Tacoma sucks gas as much as the steel bodied F-150 and costs allot. The frontier is just old.. been way too long since it was updated. The 2.5 is gutless and the 4.0 sucks gas. And that's about all Americans have to buy. No wonder F-150's sell so well.

It looks like Chevy might be headed in the right direction with their new 2015 Colorodos with choices of 2x4 and 4x4. Gas or diesel engines, Single cabs, extended cabs, or crew cabs. Ford will definitely be back in the small truck market but it might not be a Ranger. Don't be surprised if we don't see a F-100 on the road.

Hopefully, although I thought I read that the new Colorado won't have a regular cab available, which is kind of a deal breaker for me (along with the styling).

Well I started this thread. Your a mod.. so if you like you can close it. I guess nobody wants to here first hand info on whats available overseas. Keep driving and rebuilding your Minn Rangers cause they are never coming back. Pretty sure there will NOT be a mid size ranger in the US. Look for a unibody compact truck most likely candidate.

I'm an American and also Fiji citizen. I live in both hemispheres in the world and have a broader sense of trucks. Its comments like this that makes me understand why other people in the world don't like Americans. I'd like to do a tug a war with your dated Ranger and watch you get dragged. Big mistake posting on this red neck forum. Ignorance is bliss huh? But your tonka toy would be so match for such a contest.. Well, you started the insults so don't cry too much. Thread closed as far as I'm concerned.

This horse was already beaten to death. CAFE rules and lack of profit have killed the compact truck in the US.

The smallest truck still available in the US is the mid-size Frontier, and it does not come in reg cab. Hell, if they would just slap a modern engine in the frontier I would buy one right now. The new colorado is only a few inches smaller than a 1/2 ton and will weigh nearly the same as the new f150, but its capability is barely more than a Ranger.

Maybe if the chicken tax is repealed, or when all the old mini trucks finally die, we will see a new compact truck. Ford has stated publicly that they see space for a true compact, and the global ranger is not compact. Building one for only the domestic market and pricing it well below the f150 would be very difficult.

If we see a new compact ever, my bet is it will be chinese.

Hey their djfllmn, why don't you just leave the sight forever. All you do is bash the Ranger. Funny thing is you once owned one. You don't see me on a F-150 forum bragging about my Ranger.

Hey their Hi Desert, don't give up on your thread. I like the specs on your Ranger but don't like the body style but other than that it's an awesome truck. I had djfllmn brag about his F-150 on my thread but I learned to ignore ignorance when I hear it. Just my advice and opinion. Once again nice truck, besides body style.

So this is a "redneck" forum yet you're wanting to promote redneck activity by doing a tug of war with two trucks. Makes a lot of sense lol. I think all the rednecks are gone off of this forum which kind of sucks, I have nobody to give **** to.

I would like to see a new ranger but I'd never buy it. I wish I never bought another one just because its underpowered but it gets me from A to B, its reliable, looks good and gets compliments, and they're stupid easy to work on.
