3.0 4wd?

I thought all 3.0s were 2wd, but my bro found a ranger xlt thats a 3.0 but says its 4wd, i have the 4.0 and have never driven a 3.0. Its a 2003 xlt 4wd 5spd with 96k miles on it, for $5000. What do you think? I dont know about the 3.0, is it any different in mpg, power, speed, reliability, mods?

The 3.0 with the 5-speed isn't TOO bad power wise.

I liked my 3.0 but the difference between that and a 4.0 are like night and day. I would never go back to a 3.0 now after having the 4.0.

I've had 5 or 6 3.0 4wd's The 5 speeds definatley run better. Not as powerful as a 4.0 with the same mileage.

Sounds like a pretty good price. The 3.0 I'm driving has 151k...

The 3.0 is a great long lasting motor. Not super good on the power side but it'll get you around. Would I get one again, yes but if I could get the 4.0 for a little more I would do it.

Idk about a 5 speed 3.0 having better performance. Although Justin has a ton of miles on his truck, I walk him frequently with my 3.0 4x4 auto.

i have 172,xxx on my 3.0....but it is SLOW!!! although i have 3.73 and 31's, and a 200lb toolbox (full of stuff), and a 100lb headache rack and steelies with super swampers (which are REALLY heavy).......it is super slow...even with the 5 speed.

yes...it is slow...the auto has the advantage in this case because the rpm's stay up due to the ratios being closer and the torque converter slipping

I have a 3.0 4x4 with the 5-speed. She does alright for what it is, I also have 31s on the stock 3.73 gears though. I'm saving for some 4.10s for that little extra help getting up to speed though haha.

i had a auto 3.0 4x4 on 31s and 3.73 gears and i hated it. Going up hills sucked it just didnt have enough power. I got horrible gas mileage only 12-13 around town and maybe 16 highway.

I've never driven a 4.0, but I have a 3.0 Manual and a 2.3 Auto. Both trucks are about the same performance. I get 21 mpg in the 3.0 and 25 mpg in the 2.3.

Ive owned a 3.0 manual and 4.0 auto. The 4.0 is TONS better than the 3.0 in terms of power and smoothness. The Koln V6 is no luxury engine but it shakes and quivers at idle less than my 3.0 did. It also sounds better.
