So why exactly wont ford release these to the US? It seems idiotic that they wont release something this awesome and wanted, yet they cry about bad sales and "low demand".

I cant think of one ranger owner out there who wouldnt like one of these. (doesnt have to be diesel)

Ford won't bring the diesel ranger to the US because the US emissions standards wouldn't make it cost effective for them. And they won't bring the 4 door version because we have the sport trac here in the US.

 

Its strange that they would rather kill off the ranger than improve it. They should get rid of the sport trac and focus more on the pickup truck line. They have the Escape, Escape Hybrid, Explorer, Sport Trac and Expedition. The pickup line for 2009 is the F150, thats it.

So there is not going to be an F-250? F-350? or F-450 Superduty for '09?

And where have you seen the press release from Ford stating there will be no '09MY Ranger? Because I sure haven't seen it yet...

 

In terms of daily drivers I never considered 250 350 and 450. Just take a look at every other major automaker out there, theres choices.

And isnt the only Ranger plant the one thats located in St Paul MN? Which is closing in 09?

If the plant does infact close in '09, then we could still see two more model years of the Ranger. '09MY Rangers will likely begin production around May/June of '08 and '10MY Rangers would likely start around May/June of '09, so when exactly in '09 is the plant shutting? Early? Late?

I did know what he meant, but why would you not consider a Super Duty a truck? Millions of people across the country drive them everyday as DD's. So let's look at it this way, Ford will still, without the Ranger, have 4 different models of truck, 150-450 and arguably Sport Trac. Toyota, 2, Tundra Tacoma, Nissan 2, Titan Frontier, Mitsu 1, Raider. Dodge 4, Dakota 1500-3500, Chevy 4, Colorado 1500-3500, GMC 4, Canyon 1500-3500, Hummer, 1 SUT.

See, Ford won't have any fewer truck options than the rest, they just won't have the 'mini' truck the others have, that is if they don't replace the Ranger with something else, which has never been publicly stated either way.

I find it ironic and sad that Ford, the proud owners of Volvo, and Land Rover can't bring a diesel ranger to the US.
I remember hearing something years ago that Volvo had found a way to make diesel bus engines that were nearly 0 emission because buses were a major contributer to poor air quality in large European cites so since Volvo was/is a major bus and heavy truck manufacturer overseas they took it upon them selves to fix the problem and from what I remember did a pretty bang up job. So why not adapt the technology for smaller engines? Volkswagon did and their small diesels are 50 state legal and have been for decades. Not to mention the fact that Europe has higher air quality standards than the US does.
My gut says they don't want to bring 'em here because they get too good gas mileage.,

 

I would love to have one of those in heather it's a gas or diesel engine. It would make a great family truck and I'd still get to have a Ranger.

 

No, they are not. VW's diesels in the Bug, Jetta, ect are 45 state. VW will have their first 50 state diesel on sale spring of '08.

 

Ah, I stand corrected. Thank you I was not aware that VW was only 45 State, (teach me to make an assumption). :) But at any rate. If VW can do it why not Ford, or Chevy, or Chrysler? I mean how hard could it really be? I would love to have a 4cyl 4WD with so much torque that it can idle up a tree.
