Icon5 302 conversion

hello:

i'm going to be dropping a 302 5.0 H.O. into my 2010 ranger supercab 4x2, and i was wondering has anybody already done this in a 2000-2010 ranger and how do i get around the electronics problem between the 89 302 and the 2010 ranger?? i want to still be able to use the stock dash with partial electronic odometer and trip guage. I've heard that the dash out of a ford explorer will help me out with the problem of the 302 transmission being cable operated for the speedo, but my 2010 ranger all that stuff is run the the cpu. please help!!!!!!!!

Jesus I recommend you read the subforum about the swap since you are doing it pretty much 500% wrong(because you dont use an old *** 302 that isn't easily compatable with Ford Rangers and expect the instruments to work nicely STOCK, most people use the V8s from a ford explorer in the 98-2000ish range)

this could have easily been done on an older truck with hardly any problems involved, and then spend the cash you must have on a new gen front clip swap.

if this amount of work/money is going into i, why no drop in a 4.6 or hell even a 5.4? that would be the only way to really beat mustangs and the like, like you said.

your not really gonna make it work. after 02(?) i think v8 swap is next to impossible, unless u cut all the ford out and start over from nothing. might as well just buy a c4 and run the thing with no electronics and some pepgauges

then I would start by gutting the truck of all electrical besides the simple things like windows, locks etc. Then replace it all with a new harness and aftermarket gauges. make sure you get money out of the harness, motor and trans you are taking out.. whats it got like 2k on it?

there goes the warranty....

seriously, find an older truck and spend the coin on a front clip. why cut up a brand new truck? i'd love a v8 in mine but i'm not about to do it. why does it have to be a brand new 2010?

for a speedometer, on mustangs at least. as long as there is cruise control, you can tap into that and use an electric speedometer. how well it will work with a ranger gauge? idk. but it works with autometer ones.

and Red_Ak_Ranger.. pretty much on the outside a 302 is a 302. hes going to just need some accessory brackets since his is out of a mustang vs an explorer. on the inside they are different tho. hes going to make less power then a comparable explorer motor since they have a better flowing intake and heads.

X2! How do you plan on getting around the 2004 + cluster with the digital odometer?
If you figure this out, please let me know.

hummm, nope.....none that i know of.

BTW 2000-2010 Rangers are not the same. 98-00 Rangers are a direct swap for the 5.0. 01-03 it's a little harder. 04+ is all electronic so the 5.0 swap is extremely hard.

What is happening with this ?

How did you overcome the electronic match up ?

Did the engine bolt in with Explorer Parts and what about the headers, what did you use ?

ANY PICS ?

One last thing… you mentioned 450 HP in your album, what are you doing to the engine… ?

well since this thread is brough up i was actually thinkign about this yesterday. what if I took like a wrecked mustang. or salvage. or heck just a nice used one, i dont care to butcher a mustang im a chevy guy.

but. what if I just totally gutted my ranger (after another 150k miles or so haha) and put in all the mustang internals. i.e., engine, wiring, maybe the dash if i can modify it to fit. like a combo mustang ranger that isnt the muskrat. ranger on the outside, stang on the inside. all the electronics would just be transplanted. If I could use the dash or combine the two dashes and use the mustang cluster, it really wouldnt be that bad getting it running. just making the interior look right i guess, and a few custom wiring things i'm sure would come up.

anyway just thought that would be totally badass
