4cl DOHC 1993 Ford ranger swap
I have A 2.3L 4cl SOHC ford ranger. I want to put something Like a 2007 Scion Tc motor in my ranger but im unsure whether or not it will fit correctly and be able to be used as a RWD motor. I want a good power to weight ratio and i can push 260hp on the scion Tc motor using stock internals. Does anyone know a good 4cl DOHC swap for my Single cab 1993 Ranger? I would like at least 6200 RPM
Welcome to the forum
Transverse mounted engines, like the Scion TC, have a few hurdles to over come, main one is a transmission, lol
You will need to find out what engine/bell housing bolt pattern it uses and see if that pattern was ever used on a RWD vehicle, doesn't have to be the same engine, just the same pattern
OR
Make an adapter plate to bolt a RWD transmission to the Scion TC, not cheap, but for sure doable, or check around maybe someone else has made one, but wouldn't be in Ranger Forums, check Scion forums
Second thing is cooling system
Transverse mounted engines have cooling systems that go from front to back, so larger radiator hoses at each end of engine
Longitudinal mounted engine(like Ranger RWD) have cooling system that go front to back and then to front again internally, so larger radiator hoses only at the front
So you will need extra space at the back of the engine to run a larger longer hose to the radiator, this can be hard because of firewall clearences
The 2004 to 2012 Ranger 2.3l DOHC is already to go with RWD, but only 145HP @ 5,250rpms
The 2.3l DOHC Ecoboost was used in RWD vehicles and has same bolt pattern as the 2.3l Duratec so has a manual trans option
It was spec'ed at 350HP at 6,000rpm
I think people have done the 2.3l Ecoboost swap in to earlier Rangers, 1993-2012
May be Google that
2019 to 2023 Rangers came with 2.3l Ecoboost, just FYI, but larger Rangers than the ones we have
