98 4.0 oil pan

Hello, I have a 98 b4000 and I’m going to do the timing cover gasket. Has anyone been able to loosen the motor mounts and lift the engine a little, to gain enough room to pull the oil pan? I was told pulling it where it is will make the pan catch the pick up tube.

or does anyone know a good way to do it without pulling the engine or completely dropping the front end?

thank you

2WD or 4x4?

The problem is the transmission AND oil pump pick up

You can't lower the oil pan down far enough to slide it back with transmission in place or oil pump pick up

You can get 3 or 4 inches by releasing motor mounts, which is enough to change the pan gasket, if you are creative, lol

To do the front timing chain cover you just need to drop the front of the oil pan a bit, you can do that without lifting the engine if memory serves?

it’s 4wd auto. I can do the whole front cover as it sits, but it will expose the front of the oil pan gasket and I don’t believe in re-sealing the old pan gasket. If someone has done the pan gasket with just picking up the engine, I would be willing to do that. I have a shop with sky cranes to use, I just have to be able to work on it and get it out of the shop same day.

Just measure the distance between bell housing and tunnel at firewall, thats how far you can lift the engine with transmission attached
