Advice for pricing Ranger to sell

Hi: I am new to this forum, so please excuse me if I have started a thread improperly. Thanks. I have my dad's 1987 Ford RangerXLT, 2.9liter, 5 speed manual, 2 wheel drive. It has approx. 45,000 miles on it. Yes, only 45K. It is in relatively good shape, we use it only a couple of times a year for hauling firewood. It needs an owner who will use it and baby it more than I have been able to do. The interior is in pretty good shape, with only one rip in the original upholstery. The exterior is a bit rougher, with some spotty rust. I live in North Carolina. Any advice for how much I should ask for it? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum

You should look at local "truck trader" and craigslist for similar small trucks

Rangers are by no means "collector cars" so their main value is as a small pickup truck
The low miles are more of a "warning" than a benefit, to someone looking for a work truck the low miles means "its been sitting in a field most of its life", lol
And because of the rust that is probably not far off the mark, it hasn't been "garage kept"

In any case what something is worth is up to the BUYER, no one else

SELLER just has an "Asking price" so look up local stuff, and you are looking at "asking prices" NOT selling prices
Add $500 and put it up for sale
You can always go down in price, but hard to go up
You can tell if its a fair asking price by the response, if no calls/emails after a week drop it a few hundred
An active buyer is looking daily at the new ads

And once you have an asking price, post it on Ranger forums in the classified or Buy and Sell section, include pictures
Also include "clean title", if it has one, in any ad, you would be amazed by how many advertised older vehicles don't have clean titles, and unless you ask up front it can be a waste of time
"My brother's girl friend's nephew has the title but can't find it, that's cool right?", lol
