I keep hearing about these offroaders (which i do a little of) doing some sort of airbox mod and removing their factory snorkels and silencers. How do you do these mods? I dont want to end up with an open airbox but i like how you can hear aftermarket intakes at times. I have researched this and must be stupid or sumthin cuz im sure there is sumthin out there about it. So...yea any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

 

The cheap (free) and very beneficial mod is drilling many small holes in your airbox. i'm gonna be working on making a chickenwire lid for my airbox. holes are smaller than drill holes so less stuff will have to be filtered, plus, chickenwire lid will let in more air than holes

 

It's not hard. Basically that black snorkel thing in the airbox is just press fit in there. You can take out the airbox and just push it out with a little grunt.

I think I saw you ask in another topic about dirt and all: my filter gets much dirtier since I both took that and my front valance off. I go through some pretty deep water and no problems (I've extended axle and tranny breater tubes also) and water getting into the engine is not an issue.

But, and especially without the valance on, I have a LOT more dirt and mud getting into the airbox. I have an Amsoil two stage reticulated foam filter and I clean it every 6 months or so. The air box is a mess now when I go in there -- but no problem and my intake tube is still clean.

 

good to hear that your intake tube is still clean. i dont go mudding that often but the knowing that i do has kept me from getting cold air and i still have my stock valence. i might do the mod if i get off my lazy @$$. just went to an offroad y-pipe and that sounds great so i need to get used to that before i get more sounds in my cab. first it was the cat-back flows then the tires and now the y-pipe. so yea...
