air conditioner runs all the time

Not sure what category this falls in, but my 2001 Ranger with 3.0 engine and a/c is constantly putting out cold (air conditioned) air and the a/c switch in not turned on. Any of the switch positions like dash, dash/floor, floor all have cold air. If I put it on the off position, that shuts it off, but then I can't get fresh air. Any way to get the a/c to shut off properly? thanks.

Properly ?

Hi , Srart your motor turn your a.c. to the proper location max "a.c." . Then unplug the compressor wiring to the clutch an check for voltage an record on paper . Then turn the a.c. power to off & check the voltage again . Your dash panel switch could be worn out. My Thouughts Bud

Search this site for blend door or blend door actuator.

the a/c compressor is designed to run in all positions except floor, off, and one other. if the temp won't change, it's probably what was mentioned above, the blend door.

I guess what I'm hearing is the A/C runs all the time, except Off, Floor, & maybe one other. Seems it would cut down on milage. Oh well.
