Alarm questions.. opinions needed!

Well my cheapo alarm took a dump on me last time I went offroading and now I need a new one. So here are my questions...

What is a good alarm with a lifetime warantee? (or close to life time, 5year or so)

What do all of you guys have?

Any good places to look for them?

kill switch. wire it into the fuel cut off system. you flip it, it kills the fuel pump....truck goes no where. cost about as much as a GOOD metal switch and some nice wiring. best sence of security you can have. most good theives know about alarms and get around them. a very well hidden kill switch they cant know about....

I'm with Zach.

You can pretty much ignore name brand as most of the popular ones are the same thing.
Viper, Python, Clifford, DEI....same plant.

If you get an alarm again try to get the "brains" installed in an uncommon location. Not under the glovecompartment. Fake wires are good too. To do it really well takes time and planning but as Zach mentioned, thieves know alarms so just having someone install it at a shop is only going to stop lazy/new thieves...

There is a problem with Zachs plan though, I can't trust my safety to a metal switch. Alarm goes out, no biggie, there's no alarm, fuel gets cut off by the switch going out or getting fliped, big problem. Lose fuel going off a jump and the results could be fatal, same situation doing 50 in a rough whoop section. I can't take that kind of risk.

Plus in the same amount of time it takes a theif to find the box that controlls the alarm, that happens to blend into all the other under dash electronics, they can easily find the little metal switch sitting under there too.

Now none of this really matters anyway because if somebody is going to steal the truck they are going to regardless of whats protecting it. What I need the alarm for is to scare off the punk kids and cholos that think they can quick score a couple tires or shocks, those are the ones an alarm going off will take care of.

Now, anybody know of any good alarms for me?

what kinda features are you wanting with this alarm?

You can get them so advanced, where you can roll down your windows, auto start your vehicle, play the mexican hat dance while doing cart wheels.

These new alarms will do just about anything.
I got a buddy that knows ALOT about them, he put mine in my honda when i had it. lemme know what features you are wanting, and ill give him a call, and see what i can find out.

Definatly has to play the mexican hat dance! or la cucarocha will do..

Seriously, all I really need is an alarm with a good shock sensor, starter kill (they all have this I believe) and thats about it. Auto start would be nice, but isnt necisary. No power locks or windows here so dont need any of that. So yea... let me know what you find out

ok here where i dont think your thinking fully. ok first say for instant the switch dies...no biggy cut the wires and twist them togeather or use solderless connecters. wheres the problem?

ok next you saying the it might "brake" while your driving on the desert. well lets think of something here. what does Ivan the ironman us all over his dash to control the fuel pump the ingnition yadayadaydaydayda. ......STRONG metal switches am not talking stupid little one's from radioshack i mean strong *** 45 amp switches **** they use on semi's you know what am talking about....
also none of my connections will go bad you want to know why.....soldered man soldered those wires aint going nowhere....

Plus in the same amount of time it takes a theif to find the box that controlls the alarm, that happens to blend into all the other under dash electronics, they can easily find the little metal switch sitting under there too.
A) who in hell sayed mine was under the dask
B) I had a few of the guys when we where down in indy trying to find my switch...did they....NO....where they jumping all threw my truck like a crazy monkey....yes...still didnt find it. i will bet no one from here can find it....

Dunno about the fuel kill/etc but my choice has always been Autoloc / Stellar (Stellar is Autoloc's remote start/alarm company)

I just got done installing the STRS9750 in my 05. The only hard thing was my truck is a bit more complicated than I'm used to, but other than that I like them. Had autoloc windows/locks/remote start in my old truck, ran like a champ for 2-3 years before I traded the truck in.

Just my 2 cents.

Anything from Directed should be a decent product (Viper, Clifford, Python, etc...)

Most of their alarms carry a liftetime warranty when purchased and installed by an authorized dealer and most shops should offer a lifetime warranty on the install as well. Meaning if anything ever goes wrong as long as you own the car you can take it back and they will do what it takes to fix it.

We just put a Clifford Matrix RSX3.5 in my truck and I have the same alarm in my Mazdaspeed. I love it. Good shock sensor that is adjustable and doesn't false too easily. It really is the top of the clifford line and has a lot of bells and whistles but they offer much more basic alarms that will do what you want.

Having the two way alarm with the auto start was a big thing for me and I could afford the extra cost so we got it.

You can check out all of the Directed products at their website:

http://www.directed.com

And choose what suits you best.

Autopage is the only way to go for me. The RS-855 has the same features as the top of the line viper but i think its a bit classier. i trust it a lil more as the pieces look less cheesy. plus my friend has the equivelent viper i had and i had better range. well worth the $$ IMO.
