Its 23 or 27 spline
Lengths are the same, 1993-2011

Dana 28 or Dana 35 hybrid axle will have 23 splines at the hub
Dana 35 axle will be 27 splines at the hub

1995-1997 Ranger can either be a Dana 35 hybrid or Dana 35

You need to look at the drive shaft side of housing, hybrid will be smoother, 35 shows more support ridges

4.0l Ranger should have the Dana 35, but no guarantee

4x4 matters for ball joints, but I didn't think front axle type mattered?

Do yourself a favor and do both sides, and also replace u-joints on the front axles while hub is off
