Icon5 Battery, alternator, or????

I have a crappy duralast battery - ya I know... its 1000CCA... the same battery that is in my other turck which is 2 years older...

however as of late, it seems the truck after sitting, for a length of time say, 4+ hours, wont start as the battery is dead.

It doesnt matter if I am just driving around town during the day, or driving at night, the ranger sits for any length of time and wont start...

come to think of it, all this started when I changed my oil o.O

Check current with truck running to see if alt is putting out...if it's not putting out..time for a new one.

If the alternator wasn't putting out, he wouldn't be able to drive it around....

Disconnect the negative battery cable, and connect a test light between the negative battery terminal and the negative battery cable. Start pulling fuses one at a time until the test light dims. That will be the circuit pulling current.

I call bull ****. Gets the rakes out.

Cars can run on just battery, no alternator.

A tell tale sign is randomly dimming headlights.

Not for long, especially at night!

I suggest you re-read the OP, he says the battery goes dead when sitting. Oh, I forgot, you have the reading comprehension of a 12 year old......

I have also seen cars that only drive during the day for 20 minutes at the most with a very weak alternator and then sit for a couple hours and the battery cant start the car...No sense in calling bull**** on that post
.

If the alternator was not charging you could start the car and run for a while on the battery. Once the battery is drained you need a boost, but the car would die as soon as the jump cables are removed as the boost only provides power to start the vehicle and not a charge.

If the alternator was charging very little current..It would be possible to run the car but still not have enough current to start back up...He really needs to check it to get a good diagnosis.

could always jump it and take it to autozone for them to test the alternator and battery for free. To be honest with you, Duralast batteries are not ****ty whatsoever.

Similar Problem. Around 3 years ago my battery died. Replaced battery 1 day later the battery was dead again. Replaced alternator has been fine ever since. Two days ago battery dies again. Go get battery and i replaced it last night. It started up this morning twice sat for 6 hours while I was at work and now it won't start. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

I will add. My lights used to dim when sitting at a red light and also when i would switch on the him beams it would turn off the head lights.
