Battery Light, High voltage

I've got a 97 ranger 4cl. The battery light came on while driving soon after that the AC quit. Got the car home tested battery voltage was 16v. Could this be alternator

i would check the regulator first if voltage is HIGH...if low and voltage dips below normal at regular rpms, then check alternator.... you must trouble shoot this and check battery as well. Make sure belt is tight with .5 inch deflection with finger..Autozone can test your system for you if you have trouble. good luck

Thanks, the voltage at the regulator is the same as the battery which is about 17volts.

Voltage regulator has been integral with the alternator on Fords since the early '80s. Replace the alternator assembly.
