Which Brand of Fuel Pump?
Hello all,
94 2.3l Ranger 2WD.
So, I'm getting help here, that is greatly appreciated, of trying to figure out why my truck won't start after running a bit, but will start after sitting a bit. I cannot do so much at a time, so it's requiring patience.
A possible source to the issue has been suggested the fuel pump is going wonky. So, if I find that is the case, I would like to know what has been a good brand of fuel pump, getting that research over with. I would like to just go with Motorcraft and be done with it, but those are quite expensive. I'll go that route if I have to.
Some years ago, a person made this evaluation for a F150. https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum...brands.503086/
Just for convenience, here is Rock Auto's selection. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...fuel+pump,6256
Thank you for suggestions and observations.

1994 Ford Ranger with 2.3l has a separate spark module, an ICM on the drivers side front of the engine, bolted to the front of lower intake manifold, it is in this position so fan can blow directly on it to keep it cool as these run very hot
This is more likely to be the warm engine restart problem, but not 100% by any means
Carry a bottle of water with you
See if you can re-create the crank but no start situaltion
If so open the hood and pour some water onto the ICM to cool it off, see if it restarts faster
If so replace the ICM
When engine is cold turn key on, and LISTEN, you should hear the fuel pump in the gas tank run for 2 seconds, repeat key off and then on as much as you need to to confirm you HEAR the pump, its not quiet, and will run for 2 seconds each time
On next no start LISTEN
There really is no other brand of fuel pump that is tested before being shipped, Motorcraft are the only ones
So best you can do is to keep the receipt and hope for the best, with 3rd party pumps, these have 1 to 2 year warranties because they are not tested
Motorcraft fuel pump warranty is 90days, lol, just FYI
Testing parts is expensive but worth it to Ford and other car makers because its MORE EXPENSIVE to install bad parts in new vehicle, i.e. recalls
Whether a part is worth the extra cost is up to you, if its an easy to change part and won't strand you if it breaks then 3rd party all the way
Fuel pump can strand you and is not easy to change, so consider all options
And you can often buy just the pump, not the whole assembly, which costs less
