Can I fix my 2.5L Manual Ranger?
I was wondering if I can put a motivation chip in my ranger as well as other things. I was planning to fix it up for street/racing (when someone wants to race me).
I don't know how much horsepower it has. Do any of you know?
Plus, I was wondering what I can put on it to give it more power and good speed?
Thank You.

The 2.5 Ranger with a manual has plenty of pep to it to put up with a few cars on the road, but not anything with a V6 or V8. The stock 2.5 Liter SOHC Lima motor has 119 HP @ 3,000 rpm; 146 ft lb @ 3,000 rpm.
You can liven it up by doing the IAT sensor mod, remove the stock air box and run an open filter, and remove the stock restrictive muffler and put a high flow "performance" muffler on (recommend Flowmaster 40 so it doesn't sound like a rice burner). Any more horsepower than what these things will give you will require serious work and big bucks.
I actually ran a 75 shot NOS brand wet nitrous system on my 2000 2.5 for a little while. I pieced the system together from Ebay after a friend sold me a 5lb bottle that fit perfectly behind the passenger's seat. It ran really good, but I blew a head gasket and spun a rod bearing after a few years of abuse, so it now has a 5.0L V8, which was the best "performance mod" by far!

Well I might sell it though. I was wanting to keep it. It was my cousins and I was wanting to keep it in the family. He broke the driver seat though...and I know why....riding with them girls too much.
I already got rims on it, thrush glasspacks (sounds like a WWI bi plane-lol), I had tinted windows until the GSP pulled me over and got on to me......
Do you know any car I could buy and will be a good muscle car?

You V8 boys need to stop dissin on a 4-banger. His 2.5 will do just fine after he turbos it, and will still weigh a hell of a lot less than your v8.
But in all reality, it ain't gonna be fast till you turbo it. However, with the proper turbo set up you can leave all those v8 swap guys behind.
(BTW, my 4-banger sometimes does get the upperhand on those V6 and V8s. It's all in power to weight.)

That's funny, because my truck has half the power and weighs only 250 pounds more than it used to with the 2.5.
And I'm not dissin the 4-banger guys. I had one for years, I know how it drives and what it's capable of. I tried every little thing other than machine work to get my truck to run at top performance, and not a single thing compared to the kind of power it has now. It's not a diss, it's just a simple fact.
To Turbo a 2.5, you're going to have to drop some pretty pennies into it. I did my V8 swap for under $2500.

more power = V8 swap. No questions on that at all. And for racing a 4 banger is the absolute worse thing U can buy period, not unless u plan on spending around $10,000 plus and rebuild the whole thing from the ground up. At that price u just as well buy another ride. V8 swaps are not that difficult to do. just go to ur local Junk/Salvage Yard and see what U can find in the form of engine parts/blocks. The Explorer engine mounts will work. Here's another little trick U can do when U find ur 5.0 Block (A.K.A 221,289,302). Buy a Stroker Kit. U can Stroke ur 5.0 and get more power out of it. And if u can't find explorer V8 engine mounts just go to www.jcwhitney.com . they have a few V8 swap kits for ur Ranger. just keep in mind the Power to weight ratio and U should be fine.
