Do I actually need my center caps for any reason? I'm thinking about removing all of my center caps to gain that 1lb of aerodynamics. No but really, I'd like to take the center caps off because keeping them on disallows from putting them in the spare tire assembly.

Do the center caps act as sort of washer for the lug nuts? Do the center caps act as a sort of shield to keep dust and dirt from getting into the bearing?
