Death of Ranger...

Well looks like the plant in MN is gona maybe close due to ranger sales being so low. this is not cool. hmmm well if ford would get their UK **** over here i bet they'd be snatched up in a second.

Well it looks like i might have a collectors item perty soon haha.. but yea just thought it was uber lame that they might shut it down.. no more MN rangers And thats a major business here.

no doubt a $24,000 dollar truck is more like the price of a full-size pickup not a small "cheap" truck for the dollar

That is pretty stupid on their part. Rangers and S10s are the only compact trucks out, and the S10 isn't even trying to compete. They are going to lose out on an entire market. If they just hold out, I think the sales will go back up in a year or two.

things happen for a reason. ford stopped caring about the ragers a while ago, had to. the market isnt big for them, not like the f series.

if you were looking at a truck which would you buy...

F150 - lots of aftermarket, v8, crew cab, full size, 13-15mpg (4x4)

Ranger - not much aftermarket, v6, small, ext cab is worthless, 16-18mpg (4x4)

that is just some of the pros and cons, i see.

I don't like crew cabs on any type of truck. But I do see what you mean, but F150s are a little more money.

I think the ranger market may take off if they increased the mpg a little bit, maybe revamped it a little so its not like a mini F250. with gas prices and what not, unless you make killer money, or can write off your gas as a business expensie, I cant see people continueing to buying these larger trucks. and, the ranger has something others dont, they have a small comnpact truck, which even the colorado cant compete. tho, i must admit, $25,000 for a ranger is a bit steep. my msrp was $22,125 yet a base line F150 4x2 with a 4.6 auto, was $23,500 when you compare build quility of the ranger with other trucks that have more expensive plastic, you gotta wonder wtf ford is thinking by charging so much money for it. if they knocked off say, $4,000 accrossed the board on all ranger trim levels, theyd sell more than any other vehical. I know my friends would buy a ranger, but their too friggin expensive, hell, MY ranger is too expensive for me to buy, i had to lease it to get the payments down. $450 would be my payment to buy it. yet for $500 i could get a F150. go figure.

Lower price and more people will buy. It's simple economics and they should endup with more money in the long run. If they can't lower the price much more without taking a big hit then it's their fault and they should see what's making manufacturing so expensive.

I don't think Ford could sell the Ranger any cheaper without cutting costs in areas that really **** people off. Those areas are wages, health care/insurance, and pensions. And with all of the Big Three posting loses you really can't cut profits.

I hope they do get something figured out. I've had several vehicles that came from that plant. I would hate to see it go.
