It did and now it wont!!!!!!

Soon here is the issue I'm facing. During the winter we were gonna have a really cold night so I took the truck down to fuel it up and put a bottle of heet In it, I drove around for about an hour to circulate the fluid. Parked it pt it on a trickle, so anyways, went out to fire it up this spring and nothing , I didnt the hear the fuel pump engage, so I changed it , and still nothing, please help, I don't think it's a fuse. And it started everytime with easy before now, sorry so long.. thanks for any help.

The most important part in a no-start diagnosis is figuring out if it is a crank - no start or a no crank - no start.

A crank no start is when the starter motor engages and is able to rotate the engine, but it doesn't start.

A no crank no start is when the engine does not rotate when the key is turned.

In each of these conditions, the end result is the same but the diagnosis is different and the root cause will also be different.

Also, we need to know the model year, engine size, and drivetrain.

PS: Don't throw parts at something and expect it to be fixed. Expensive way out that wastes both time and precious dollars.

There is a 30amp fuse in the engine fuse box that powers the fuel pump

There is also a Fuel Pump relay that passes that power to the fuel pump

In a 1991 it is UNDER the engine fuse box
Drawing here: http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/La...pump_relay.gif

Picture here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...lay-jpg.35945/

The GREEN base is for the Fuel Pump Relay

When you turn on the key, the BROWN relay should "click" closed, that powers the GREEN relay and it should also "click" closed, BUT for 2 seconds only then click open
You can turn key on and off as much as needed to see if GREEN relay is working

IF you have the BLACK relay in the picture, it is for air conditioned only Rangers so you may or may not have it, but if you do have it you can use that relay in the Fuel Pump relay spot, they are the same relay part number

From the Fuel pump relay the power wire runs into the Cab's passenger side compartment, in the foot area just above carpet and below glove box you will find the Inertia switch
Looks like this: http://www.explorerforum.com/photopo...ut_off_WEB.jpg

These rarely fail, this switch is there to CUT FUEL PUMP POWER in an accident, to prevent fires, it has a weight inside and in a sudden stop or rollover the weight breaks electrical connection inside.
It has a Red reset button on the top that will be UP if it has been "tripped".
Once tripped and reset they need to be replaced because they will trip again easily, i.e. speed bump or just slamming the door hard

Fuel pump power
Battery Positive-----30amp fuse-------fuel pump relay-------------------inertia switch---------------------------------------Fuel pump-------------Ground

Fuel pump is an electric motor so does need a good Ground to run

So last night I looked under the dashboard and there was a 30amp fuse blown, I don't know what its to and if that was the problem, but what would cause that to do that. hoping this means im getting close. oh I changed it and it still didn't start.

Only two 30amp fuses in the cab fuse box
One is for the heater fan
Other is for power windows, if so equipped

Nothing to do with the engine

Are the two relays clicking?

All the fuses that get the engine to start are in the engine fuse box in a 1991

Have you checked the fuel pump fuse? If no power is getting to the relay and subsequently the pump, it'll never work.

Ok. Just want to pull this out of you know where. I had a problem with it cranking. Then starting. It was sounding like it was gagging to get fuel then it would die.

I popped a new fuel filter on. It started fine. My fuel pump is so quite I can't hear it prime. Even when standing outside and turning the key.

I know that sounds funny. It might work.

Question??? Does the spark plugs fire?
Trying to help

I hope I have not insulted you. That was not what I wanted to do at all. That was an issue I just fixed. After the sputter start it would crank and not start. My fuel filter was really bad. I have yet to hear a prime when I start it. Turning key waiting and then starting. Zero sound from fuel pump.

Didn't want to upset you.

No absolutely not, I'm just frustrated. The relay clicks right like it should. It ran fine prior, and I don't see how the filter wold keep the pump from priming?.
