Drivetrain swap
Drivetrain swap
I have a '99 4.0 auto 4WD Supercab. If you've seen previous posts, you know I needed to replace or rebuild my engine due to no oil pressure but it had plenty of oil in it. The mechanic (yes I trust him) said that it could be a bad oil pump or clogged passage somewhere so either rebuild or replace. That was a couple years ago and my baby has been sitting since then.
I finally found a 4.0 when I had the money to get one. I was able to score a '99 ext cab with the same drivetrain. It went off-road unscheduled (rear tire blew) and hit trees in the front but still runs. Not worried about the radiator because I had already bought an aluminum triple core for mine due to the plastic side tanks were cracked when I got it. I've also bought some new accessories simply due to age with the intention of phtting them on mine - new water pump and harmonic balancer.
When the truck was delivered, they had already removed the tranny because he thought he'd had a buyer but they bailed. The wrecked truck has less than 130K miles. Since the tranny is already out, I know it will be easier to get the engine out.
My dilema - should I just install the replacement engine or should I install both. Tranny on mine was fine when purchased but has been sitting for at least 3 years. I want to make this my last vehicle purchase (unless she gets hit) so I'm upgrading and replacing parts. I did want to eventually have a transmission shop here rebuild the tranny & transfer case, just like I want to rebuild my original engine.
