Got that front-end popping feeling...

So I've done a search, and it looks like the popping I'm talking about is from one of the front right ball joints. The popping occurs when there is a strong lateral force on the front end, like turning quickly, or turning as I hit a pot-hole or something. I took the wheels off and looked around, shook everything as hard as I could, and couldn't find anything wrong.

So would there be any visible signs if it is the ball joint? I expected a busted boot, or grease seepage(?sp) or something.

So is this a ball joint issue?

Next question is, I only have 25k on the truck, would it be covered by warranty?

Thanks for any help..

Yes they would be covered under warranty, or atleast they should be.

I dont know the "signs" of a bad ball joint, only the popping that goes on.

SoundPer4mance... My old truck had a bolt that stoped you from turning the wheel too far, but it certainly wasn't anything you could lube...

Edit...
Alright, I read the posts you made before, and I could see that smearing grease would work if the wheel "pop" was happening when the wheels were turned all the way, but my sound is happening at like 15-25deg of wheel turn. Could this still be the problem? I'll take a look at the stops tonight and see if they're in bad shape, or extra shiney, but I think it's most likely the ball joints, or sway bar end links. I'm really ****-retentive, and have probably only hit my steering stops less that 6 times since I got my truck.

Thanks

I'll keep the thread up to date as I hear what the problem was from the dealer.

Don

Well my truck started the popping/clunck this week when I would do rolling left hand turns. It was more pronounced if the turn was uphill or over a pot hole.

I though I had a lower ball joint going out since I have 81k on my truck and more weight up front due to the V8. I jacked up rh LCA and as I started to jack the control arm it did the clunck. I looked up and saw the sway bar end link had sheared off where it goes into the sway bar. I continued to jack the LCA till it was level with the ground and did the ball joint test by trying to shake the wheel. They are rock solid with no movement except for the sterring gear play.

So check your sway bar end links. I'm off to the parts store.

Sorry I never updated the post... The problem was in fact that one of the bolts on the sway bar mount/bushings came out, letting the sway bar move away from the frame, and slapping back into it as the suspension went back to normal. Easy fix from the hardware store thankfully.
