engine to cold

My truck was throwing a p0116 code. I replaced the engine temp sensor plus put a new thermostat in it. The check engine poped back on after seventy something miles. The only other thing I could think of is that my truck did not have cats on it. I tried switching a 95 ranger cats with mine, wich is a 2000 ranger 4x4. The flanges were larger on the 95. I just want to know if the cats would make the motor run to cold. Plus new cats are two hundred. Thanks for any help I can get on this.

no the cats wouldn't do it.....

did you change BOTH temp sensors? If you have a 4.0, I know for sure that there are 2 temp sensors, the one nearest the t-stat housing is for the gauge and the other one (more under the throttle body) is for the PCM...

No I changed the one with dual wires. The other sensor only has one wire. That is the only two on the thermostat housing. I was thinking one went to the gauge. Yes I have a 2000 4x4 with a 4.0 thanks for the help.

did you change the one on under the throttle body? the one that is harder to reach (almost directly under the upper intake) is the one for the PCM, not the easily accesible one closer to the thermostat housing....

Yea thats the one I switched out. It has the dual wires going to it. The other sensor has one wire. It is susposed to be self grounding. I just dont know anything else to change out.
