I'm going to be replacing my old pads on the front of the truck. Any peticular pads anyone has had good experiences with? Any tips or tricks removing the caliper? I haven't even looked at it. I've done brake changes on alot of vehicles, so I'm not worried about doing it. Just looking for some tips to make things go a lil smoother. Thanks guys!

 

use locktite when puttin the bolts back in... they tend to back out on rangers

i bought the best napa had, which was a ceramic style pads and a nice rotor to match the pads. cost was under 200, and no brake dust and it stops excellent!

 

I got napa ceramic pads. They are nice pads and they do stop great, quite, and they dont dust as bad. But they for some odd reasons are wearing the crap out of my rotors quickly. I just guess I cant have the best of both worlds.

 

When we put my Superlift on last weekend, we found out that my front Brakes were shot.

I went to Advanced Auto Parts and picked up their best set of rotors for 65 bucks, and i got some Friction Master Ceramic front pads for about 65 too. It stops GREAT with the 35's, and no brake dust!

 

Ceramic pads dont dust but thier trade off is they chew up rotors really bad.

Semi metallic pads are great IMO, although they dust a bit more than ceramic they are easier on the rotors.

I love Bendix Titaniumetallic pads and thier OE replacement rotors. they dont really dust to bad, stop good and last a long time under hard braking conditions.

they retail (for a fullsize F150) for around $40 (should be avrage) and the rotors should be around $50.

 

hey I just got my friction masters lol but mine were only 40.98 for the whole front...I think my rear ones need replacing soon

 

X2 on the Friction Master, I recommended them to him and they are awesome.

 

I'm not worried about dust. If the ceramics will stop a lil better, I'd be willing to buy them. But if there is a semi-metallic equivalent I'd rather use them. My rotors aren't bad(yet) so I really don't wanna replace them.

 

If you aren't going to replace the rotors take them to the local machine shop and have the turned. It'll help the new pads seat in better, we never do a brake job without doing it, unless the rotors need replacing. For pads we use Wagner, but for some odd reason my new truck aparently dosen't like them, this set is making alot of dust, and have made noise since they were installed.

 

Ugh, two weeks later I still haven't touched my brakes. I really need to get my a$$ in gear on this one.

Today they starting grinding. *shudders* I hate that sound. Looks like the ol' girl will be spending some quality time with the driveway for awhile. Not too sure if it was the lil squealy clip or metal on metal, i.e. no more "pad" on the brake pad lol.

 

That happened to me twice going down the road and hearing a clunk clunk sound. Started to **** me off. I dont think i put locktite on it though cuz i wanna be able to get them off without making my knuckles bleed. I bought some bolts that had a lock washer on em and it works fine.

 

I ended up replacing the rotors with oem replacements from AdvancedAuto and got some carbon metallic pads from Autozone. Having quite broken them in yet, but they seem to stop way better than before.
