Grinding noise from front end when on gas
Hey guys,
2004 FX4, 4.0L 4x4 here. Only had the truck for a couple months so still figuring some things out.
i have a weird grinding noise coming from somewhere in the front end when I’m moving. I can be going down the road at about 40 mph and sit there and go on/off the gas and it’ll grind when I’m on the gas and immediately stop when I let off. It also does it when going down a hill, so it seems to do it when the truck is under a load maybe? I’m not sure, but it’s most noticeable when applying any amount of gas at any speed, or at lower speeds going down a hill. It also feels like there’s a lot of friction in the drivetrain. I’ll be going down a hill not touching my brakes and be expecting to be going a lot faster than I am.
what I do know for certain is that it’s NOT a wheel bearing or hub. I just had a bearing and CV axle break on me, so one side got a new axle (didn’t replace the other to save money), but both side got completely new hub assemblies. I was hoping replacing them also fixed the grinding/friction issue, but it did not. But it does drive smoother in the steering wheel and no ABS light anymore!
any help is apparently, thank you!!
