My heater in my 1990 ranger doesn't blow hot at all. The best it will do is blow warm and it takes 5-8 miles to get to that point. Im thinkin thermostat stuck open but someone told me that the heater core made be clogged. How do you flush/clean the heater core? Keep in mind that my fan resister burned up today so now I only have off and full blow high fan speeds only.

 

You can do a quick an easy test by feeling the hoses during and after its warmed up (be careful as the hoses my be very hot). Let it run just sitting in driveway or garage. As its warming up run your hand along the hoses feeling for any temp changes between the upper and lower Rad hoses. Then the same along both heater hoses. Continue doing this until the engines at full operating temp. The Rad hoses should both feel hot only after its warmed up and the thermostat opens. The heater core lines should warm up much faster. If any feel considerably cooler than the other then there maybe something wrong with the thermostat, hot water valve, or the heater core.

To flush the core you'll need to remove both hoses at the firewall. Install some temporary hoses, long enough to go over the fender. Connect a flush tee on the one that would normally be the return line from the core. Connect a garden hose to the tee. Turn on the water about half way. Now place your thumb over the open end of the tee to modulate the pressure and see if water and any gunk come out the other hose. DO NOT PUT FULL WATER PRESSURE ON THE CORE AS IT MAY RUPTURE!

 

Before you start unhooking hoses, what is the temp gauge showing?

 

It gets barely above the C mark. I drive 15 miles to work so its got plenty of time to warm up.

 

I would suspect that your truck has become depolarized due to the exposure from the neutrino flux emission you had earlier. This has now causes your truck to become a super conductor stripping all thermal heat from anything in close proximity.

Check your upper and lower Rad hoses after you warm it up and see if they feel hot or just warm. It sound like the thermostat may be stuck open.

 

Im almost positive your thermostat is stuck open. I took my thermostat out of my truck and thats exactly what happens.

 

its got to be the thermostat cause the hoses just get warm,never hot.

 

If the temp gauge is still reading low I'd throw a new thermostat in.

 

Mine was the same way and I have about the same drive to work. I changed the thermostat and I cant remember being so warm in a truck ever before.

 

Only prob right now is i cant find the bolts to get the neck off cause of all the grease and oil on the motor. I know it should be only 2 bolts but cant find one. Hope none are behind the timing pulley. Does any know where they are? One on top and one on bottom or are they on the side?

 

I replaced the thermostat and it works great. Forgot to get the gasket so i had to walk up to autozone and get it. Those bolts are hell to get too,cant even see them. It was worth it now i wont freeze to death on my way to work.
