How To Pull ABS Codes on 2WD 99 Ranger
How To Pull ABS Codes on 2WD 99 Ranger
Can someone help? As mentioned above, need help pulling ABS codes on my 99 ranger 4.0 RWD. Local autozone and discount auto says they can only pull codes from CEL and there is very limited info on the net on how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
You're gonna need something like this. I use an older version of this scanner in my 2003 and it pulls ABS codes without issue.
It'll probably be the best tool you'll have in your arsenal. It's their mid-grade scanner so it will tell you almost everything you ever need to know about your truck.
I got my scanner back in 2014 after my manager at Advance threw it in the garbage because "It's old and junky and rarely works". I trash picked it and have been using it ever since. It's out of date as it ends in 2008, but the newest truck I own is a 2003 so it's perfect. It's done everything I've ever needed it to and is a great diagnostic tool.

Hmm that's strange. And the ABS light is on steady?
All the info for that scanner says it has the ability to access ABS codes for most 1996-2013 Domestic and Asian vehicles including Ford. So I'm not sure why you're not seeing anything.

No it only comes on when I drive over 10-15mph. Once I turn off the truck and turn it back on, it is off again. I have a RABS system instead of the 4WABS so maybe that is not why it is reading any codes or even modules
05 Ranger 2wd ABS lite & blower speed intermittent
I'm a new member to the forum but I've used it to help diagnose my 05Ranger many times...great forum! I've owned my 2wd 2.3LMazda Ranger 4 years I grew up a GM guy but when I started looking at compact pickups the S10's didn't do anything for me. This Ford it a great little truck! I've owned 4wd's but wanted a simpler less expensive to repair truck so I went a Ranger. Before I put it on the road I added a 4" suspension lift from Firebird Industries it gets the truck up nicely & gives it a 4wd stance. I had clearance problems with the drop knuckles that needed correcting with machining & lost about 1/2 a steering wheel turn left to right lock. Overall the lift kit was more work than it should have been but it was worth it. I went thru the truck replaced upper & lower control arms, ball joints, shocks,rotors/pads, ABS sensors. I machined rear shock extension blocks so I could retain stock shocks without going to custom longer ones. I kept a photo record of the work if anyone is interested.
Anyway, the problem I have started a few months ago. The ABS lite comes on when the outdoor air temp is roughly 30deg or higher. Below freezing it lites when starting then goes out. At the same time this started the heater blower motor speed switch only ran the blower motor in low or high. At first I figured the blower resistor module went bad but I procrastinated replacing it then it started working again but only in warmer weather 40deg or more. One idea from the forum said low battery voltage may be the problem. I checked voltage at the battery posts 12.4 volts engine off 14.3 engine running which is normal.
I haven't decided if the 2 problems are related could a battery ground be the problem? We live in the upstate NY northern rust belt though the truck is from the west coast so body rust is minimal.
Any ideas before I start checking grounds? The front ABS sensors & rotor/hub/sensor tone rings are only 4 years old. I pulled the rotors 2 weeks ago to inspect the ABS sensors & tone rings all were clean.
