How to use a clutch?

I asked this same question to some buddies at a trans shop years ago, and they said put it in neutral to ensure the throwout bearing lasts the life of the clutch.

I live in a city and often get in border and ferry and toll lines, and often get stuck in traffic. There may be debate on how tough the bearing is, but I don't want to ever have to drop the trans just to replace the throwout bearing before the clutch is worn out.

Slave cyls might be a somewhat weak point but they are less costly to fix.

I guess each to their own. But at least those of us who put it in neutral don't end up with one big Popeye leg from holding the clutch at every stop!

Bad for the t/o bearing, put it in neutral.
