he said he went to grab his phone. its not like he was looking at it or doing anything with it. just picking it up.

Stopping on the side of the road to view the text would have been the cheaper option... there's no way you can blame your twisted frame on your girl. It's your fault plain and simple..
I'm with your buddy on this one get it on a rack and make sure the axle is centered.. too much damage to beat out... might save a buck or too if you have the means to get the bed off yourself saving some cash on labor....

I am guilty as sin when it comes to texting and driving or talking on the phone and driving. But I only do it when I have to, or if the conditions/roads are clear, otherwise I pull over if the call is that important. I will read texts, but not necessarily reply to them unless they require I need to urgently.

No, stopping in fog or inclement conditions is just as bad. What if the idiot barreling down the road at 60mph doesn't see you pulled over and smashes into the back of you? It happens.
Simply put, the text was not urgent and could have waited to be read or replied to.

I gotta agree with everyone on this, can't blame the girl for it.
I'm guilty of texting and driving. HOWEVER, when there's weather and the road's are nasty... I put the phone in a place I can't see it or hear it and focus on driving. I don't even so much as turn the stereo down unless I'm stopped.

okay guys, honestly lighten up. some of you folks take these things too literal. im not saying it was her fault, although she knew i was driving and shudnt be txting me. then the other side of the argument is i shudnt have picked up the phone, i realize that. im also not saying that i wasnt at fault, because i was.
and for all you jackasses that say i was playing with my phone, u really know how to bend things. i done ever recall doing that OR saying i did that, i reached for my phone, end of story. some of you guys are like MAD in your posts? wtf? im admitting it was a mistake, some of these posts are not really necessary. im asking for advice on how to fix the TRUCK.

Well once again Phil, I think it needs to get put on a rack.
From looking at it right now you will definitely need new shackles. Either factory or aftermarket. Probably around $50. Also you might need new mounts where the shackles attach to the frame. They look a little bent. Cosmetic damage is the least of your worries. The end of the frame can likely be bent back into position, but still I advise you to have it put on a rack so that you don't cause more damage by driving it.

Nobody is mad at you Phil. You admitted you made a mistake when you even said you should have known better. We are just saying that there was absolutely no reason you should have ever gone to grab the phone at all. You can't go back on what's been done, you just have to deal with the reality infront of you and get your truck fixed now.
This is just a lesson learned the hard way and now you are smarter because you know better now.
Good luck getting the truck repaired. :)

Let's not judge him guys. Trust me, I'm tempted too.
But **** happens, and nobody is perfect. I don't use my phone while I'm driving because nobody calls me =P. I'm sure if work or my parents called, I'd pick up the phone and say "Hey, I'm driving, cant' talk now."
But that still requires me to pick up the phone - which is what he was about to do. And for the record, he's taking the blame. Things could've been worse. They can always be worse. But what happened sucks and let's just hope you learn your lesson from it....
You should buy Hella foglights. =P

thanks guys, but bad news...
now that i step back a little and look at the whole truck, i see that the bed is angled down a little. i kinda noticed the gap between the bed and cab was a lil off so i stepped back and noticed a little. im going to see what i can do tomorrow with the very end of the frame, but, i think getting all that realigned will be too much money to put into a $5k truck. also i have a really good eye for that kinda stuff, so its not really THAT noticeable to others, just me. well is there anyhting that would cause the bed to be tilted that i can at least check tomorrow?
Also, got any links on those infamous hella fogs?

yea it was pretty nasty, im laying under there wrenching on it. get sooo much rust in my eyes and and face lol
u know those strong *** reese brackets bent the frame up, u know kinda put a upside down V in the frame kinda like ---^ is wat the end looks like. just worked all day trying to flatten that back out. we ended up having to cut it, because all that stretched metal has nowhere to go. but once it gets flat again, it will just overlap on itself and ill weld it. it still will look kinda funky under there, but my main concern is getting those brackets level, u know as long as they come out straight and level, i dont really care how it llooks under there.
