I just bought a pretty cheap 2005 2D Ford ranger that has many things that need fixing, so you will see me here often lol...
but today’s question is: as I’m detailing the car I’ve noticed two wires that are disconnected (pictures attached). What do these cables do? Should I be concerned? Thank you! This wire is under the steering wheel next to a yellow one
I wouldn't be too concerned if you have a base model Ranger with few options, wiring harnesses will have connectors for all option available on that model, and won't be connected if that option wasn't added
In 2005 Rangers Ford didn't use PATS(passive anti-theft system) and there was a 4 wire transceiver in the steering column, that wouldn't be connected in 2005, but wires are there for it
Maybe you can ID your model from that and see what options were available and the ones you don't have, like cruise control, it was in the steering column
If you have something that doesn't work then you can revisit that connector
The first photo looks like ~ 9 inches of single conductor wire once used as a ground for an option, perhaps a meter, gauge or CB radio.
I bet someone removed the option and lazily just clipped the wire -the one with the yellow sleeved crimp-on connection.
Any hot lead would've been more carefully dealt with.
Years ago I "trouble-shooted" a similar disconnected ground and brought an add-on tach back to life. I was a hero for a good 10-15 minutes.
Good luck with your new truck. How many miles?

supposedly 140k but the title says exempt so may be more but it starts real nice. Another issue that it has is the airbag light. Which I’m guessing is the clock spring because the horn is not working.
