K&N Intake

Would a K&N Intake system make a difference on a 2.3 ?

most on here will tell you to save your money, that it wont do a thing.
i think it helped slightly-worth the 300 probably not but i got mine on craigs.
it makes the engine sound meaner with a nice growl. i feel i got a lil increase in mpg-maybe 1 or 0.5 increase on average.
i wouldnt pay retail for one.

I put K&N systems in the same catagory as fuel additives. Some say they work some say they don't. I still use both because I feel like all of it added together has to do some amout of good right? I have A drop in K&N and usually have system cleaner or octane booster in my tank. :)

Just cut open your airbox below the air filter or drill BIG holes in it and you will get better results.

There was a post some time back that compared the air intake of the later 4 cyl engines to the 6 cyl. They found they are the same size, with the only difference being the MAF sensor. That is the restrictive point.

Not worth the money. They offer little other than a whistling noise and better underhood appearance.

go to the junkyard and find a svo mustang, merkur, or thunderbird turbo coupe.
2.3l turbo, easily upgradeable to high hp.

Funny you should say you hate the truck. I just got into a 4cyl ranger (after having a V6 and a V8) and i dont' miss the bigger engines at all.

But yea the KNs are a huge waste. Had one on a 4.2 5 speed F150 i had, did nothing but add a turbo like whistle. luckily i didn't pay for it.

I got rid of both my K&N filters, one on my Mustang and the Ranger. I seen it on a episode of Two Guys Garage and a few websites forums I'm on, some of the oil from the filter can make it to the Mass Air Flow sensor and cause some issue.

I bought my wife a 4.7 V8 Jeep Cherokee, before I bought this Ranger I had a 5.2 V8 Dodge Ram and before that a 5.9 V8 Jeep Cherokee...

I can't stand having a 4cyl.

I had found a 96 Ranger ext cab 4x4 with 110k orig. miles a couple weeks ago but it sold the day it was listed..

I appreciate the replies !

Hey Kris03 if I added a Kand N plus an upgraded exhaust would that give me better fuel economy on a 2010 4.0?

I found i got a bit more K's out of mine too, not the increase you got (polaris800) but my 4.0l seems I get about 45km + out of a tank since i did mine only on the highway when I'm chiling on the fule pedal, 110-115km/h seems to be the sweet spot with my 4.0 5spd 2wd!

Have air raid installed after the filter gets dirty I'll change back to the factory not a noticeable differance in power or mileage all I can get outa my truck is 300Km per tank that's large tires and a 410 rear end for ya.
