Keys to big/ to many

Have any of you even heard or had your ingnition drum/cylinder wear out. My frined thinks that if you have your key, remote, and like 5 others on your ring that it will wear out your ignition.

I dont think having a key ring with 5-10 keys will prematurly wear out your ignition.

I don't know about wearing it out, but the knot of keys I carry has certainly loosened mine over the years.

Right so the only way it could ruin it would be by having a ridiculous amount of keys?

5-10 wont hurt it?

The reason I brought this up is because last night we went to the gym and when we got back the door was locked and he didnt have his OTHER set of keys with him. It was 20 degrees out and my other roomate and I were cold. He gave us that bulls*** excuse of it wearing out. We called him an idiot and told him he was wrong.

If it's only keys and not a ridiculous amount it will take forever to make a noticeable difference. The keys typically don't hang far off the ring so we're talking like 2" of thin metal.
Now if we're talking huge gaudy keychains in quantity, it's a whole nother story. Some of those ridiculous things are 10cm long, it's like a pendulum swinging on your ignition key, rubbing constantly against all those important little parts that keep people with screwdrivers from starting your truck.

5 isn't so bad, but 10 is getting up there. There's not a lot to those ignitions and you'd be suprised at how easily they break. I have 1 key set a side that I use as an ignition key, and that's the only key being supported by the ignition. A little cautious but it's a $100 fix that I don't want to make.
