Looking to buy 98 Ranger Ext Cab Auto 4x4 200K

I am looking at buying a 98 Rnager Ext Cab 4x4 Automatic with 194k miles on it. 3.0 V6. What's it worth? Seems to run good, but seems like high miles to me, so I'm on the fence. Couple of dings nothing major, one rust spot on top of cab. I think I can pick it up for around $2500 or so, not a bad deal, but just don't want to have to redo the whole thing before I get it home. Anything in particulaar to look for? Does it have any life left? Any thoughts comments suggestions or your own personal experience / things to look / lookout for would be appreciated. Thanks.

Too many miles for that price. I'd keep looking.

I just sold one with 196,000 miles on craigslist in 2 days for 3500. The things I would check is any repair historry on the expensive stuff: motor, trans, wheel bearings, 4x4....

It was actually a nice truck, loaded and I had just swapped a lower mileage motor.

the orange one?

high miles could be bad or good. if the car changed hands numerous times, i'd avoid it. but if it's one owner, receipts, good shape. i'd consider it.

another thing is what motor/manufacturer. i'd have no problem buying a dub (i kno, not in the question) since those motors are built so good. mine had 295k i bought it and sold it at 303. my buddy bought a diesel with 148k and drove it into the ground. when he got rid of it, it had 400k.

ask questions when you go look at it, and if your really interested, bring some money with you and offer that. what are they asking for it? you said you can get it for 2500ish.

to me that seems a little high for that year. it's 12 years old and has an average of 16000 a year. i'd look for something newer with less miles that costs a little more.

Yes, it had several owners and they wouldn't go below 2500 I took cash and no go. That's really where I want to be price wise. Just looking to teach the kids how to drive with an automatic. I've owned several myslef and really like the little trucks just had to get a f150 to haul everyone in. I am now looking at a 96 4x4 for $1700 automatic, extended cab, 187,000 miles on it. With the 4.0 V6. I figure anytihng with a working running gear and 4x4 is worth at least $1500
