At a loss and looking for direction. Please
I recently acquired a 2004 Ranger xlt 4dr 4x4 4.0 auto. It has sat that I know of for 3 ish years. In Michigan (where I am) rust is common, however I was taken back with the level this one has. That aside it has Hella heat! I have planned for a tune up, recently did an oil change and it was fine. Then a check engine light and a oil light came on. The oil light goes on and off randomly. Fluid is fine and never low. Check engine code is (obd-II sensor) P0174. Which as I read it's a blanket shot in the dark with a plethora of possibilities. So, I replaced fuel filter, then air filter, then Mass Air Flow sensor. All have not made code stop (I've cleared and it came back). Today I drove into town and it did a stager and gave an impression it was starving for fuel. (I was idle at a light) once I turned and went 3/4 mile and she quit. I hear fuel pump upon crank. I checked fuel rail pressure and it's weak at best. Added 5 gallons (thinking it may flush any obstructions on fuel sock) didn't help. I have had several staggers/stutters since engine light. I'm leaning toward a fuel pump replacement. Before I buy and keep throwing parts at it I'd like another opinion. Please
No, the owner had staybil in it and started it and moved it randomly over that period. I did run Barryman and sea foam thru with every tank fill. About 5 thus far. Again, I hear the pump prime when I turn the key, but don't get enough pressure to feed the beast.
Change the O2 sensors, they only last 12 years or 100k miles which ever comes first
Lean and Rich codes are set by the voltages of the O2 sensors, as an O2 sensor runs out of its chemicals, it can no longer be trusted
So there could be a problem on Bank 2....................or you are just chasing the ghost of an old O2 sensor
Better to just change all 3 if they are 20 years old now
And see what codes you get

Replaced fuel pump and housing
Okay, part came. Replaced it. Have better fuel pressure. (No I have no fuel pressure Guage) She still won't start!! Now I'm not getting spark!! Checked with test light, no Bueno. Unplugged the neutral safety swith and tried cranking nothing, then plugged back in. No start. I'm at a complete loss yet again. Suggestions?
