Manual or Automatic? Advice Please

I am ooking into buying a new ranger. I have had a 1998 explorer OHV auto for the past 10 years and it hasnt given me any major problems. But with 190,xxx on her its time to move on. I have always enjoyed the control you get when driving a manual trans, but I realized that the 5-speed ranger can only tow 3080lbs, while the auto can tow up to 5540lbs. I need to be able to tow my autox car to the track on weekends (3530lbs including trailer). Which trans do you reccomend? Are there reliability issues with the manual? Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Thanks, JD.

Auto, 1 for the towing strength and 2 the Ranger manual trans isn't known for its reliability.

Welcome to the site as well!

Thanks for the replies and the welcome :) I have looked at the f150 and its just a little out of my price range, but I guess I could check my budget and reconsider. My dad has an '05 f-150 that will pull a fullsize trailer and skid loader all day long lol.

Yeah I went to the stealership and with the incentives and rebates I can get a 150 for nearly the same price as a loaded ranger. I just noticed you're from PA, I am originally from the York area.
