Greetings, all..great to find this forum for Ranger support!!!

I have a dynamite little 4L V6 '08 Ranger Sport we picked up about six months ago. It's been a gem, and everything we've been able to tell about the truck indicates it was well looked after, but I've got a few minor things that have popped up...thought I'd solicit some general advice.

Firstly, its time for an oil change. Problem is we have no good oil change history for it, and I don't know if it has been using synth/synth blend/conventional. I'd obviously prefer to change like-for-like, but if I can't figure out what it had before, what would be the recommendations here? It has about 76K miles, no leaks, no smoke.

Secondly, the fuel gauge as developed a tendency to "bounce" a bit. I'm thinking that's likely a bad float or perhaps a bad sender, but wondered if there were something else possibly at play I need to consider?

Third, I'm picking up a bit of pulsing on the brakes, which I suspect may indicate worn/out of round rotors. Don't expect any big problem in changing those, but here, too, just wondering if there were any other things I should be looking at along the way?

Not sure on the '08 models but earlier Ford fuel gauges has an "anti-slosh" module on the back of the gauge, these could cause issue from no reading at all to stuck on full.
This module is there to prevent the needle from going up and down every time you go around a corner and the float goes up and down.

If you are not sure on the oil use the factory spec oil, or go with synthetic if that is your desire.

 

I just had my 08 ranger serviced, dealership done for convenience sake. The default oil according to them was a synth/conventional blend. I opted for synthetic. The only thing they cautioned me on going to synthetic, is that if it had a leak, the synthetic may leak a little more than the blend.

I have a set of manuals for this truck, I will look and see if i can find anything about the fuel quantity gauge.

It's a bit technical, and references a scan tool, but there is lots to be learned there.

I personally use valvoline max life its a synthetic blend it almost stopped my pesky rear main seal leak. It got it to the point it leaks so little its not even worth fooling with it stopped my little valve cover leak to its excellent stuff for the price.
