To do or not to do
Upgrade my OEM exhaust and air intake?
The general consensus is: there is very little if any gains in the HP and gas mileage
I was looking at a Gibson /flowmaster /mangnaflow performance exhaust system to add a little ummph to my truck. Now I don’t need it to sound loud and annoying, ya know to announce my arrival, but a little throaty would be nice. But will the $$$ be worth it? Here in Canada it aint cheap even if I install it my self, were talking 4-900$.
Secondly I was looking at the KN CAI FIPK(350$CDN from Lordco), all I’ve read is they are crap or they are the best, I already have the drop in KN Filter for my stock box.
What say you Ranger forum?
Im not looking for huge gains, but those of you with this combo what do you think?
Yes ive searched through many threads.

K&N FIPK sucks. Get a Volant intake: Volant Cool Air Intakes The intake alone won't help much but with an exhaust you will get a ok gain.
I have video of my Magnaflow but it sound like crap since it was still new when I took the video. The tone changes when it breaks in. Also I have a SOHC 4.0. I personally don't like going the cheap route and just getting a chokemaster and dumping it.

I like my exhaust but it's a little on the loud side but my buddy has the Gibson extreme dual setup and it actually sounds really good and not nearly as loud as my flowmaster. I'm not sure on the intake cause I haven't tried any of them yet. I think the only real gain will be in sound and maybe a little better throttle response. That's the only thing i noticed after my exhaust was installed was it just had a quicker throttle response and seemed to rev up a little faster.

If your looking to save a little money on your exhaust you should check out some of the smaller exhaust shops in your area. I have had exhaust done on my ranger and jeep in shops and found that it was actually cheaper than buying a kit from a magazine and I was able to have it ran exactly how I wanted.
