I was getting about 16-18 mpg city in my truck and like 23 highway until I put my BFG's on...now I'm getting about 11 city and like 18 highway...of course it was right when it started getting cold out, so I'm not sure if it's the tires or the fuel switch or a combination of the two. I'm taking the BFG's off though some time soon and putting the Wrangler RT/S's back on...gonna see if my mileage goes back up.

I have like 2k on the BFG's so you might see them for sale here some time soon.

i used the lucas tune up in a bottle and supream 92<only thing they had 2 fillups ago to get the 13.5mpg and it brougnt it up like 3-4mpg using it and being extreamly light on the foot
how do you figure 5 miles for larger tires?

what size is your stock tire? what size is your new tire?

depending on that change in tire size, there's a possibility that you should be adding more than 5 miles for a full fill.

I went from 215/75/14's to 235/75/15's, and that changed my speedometer (and odometer) readings by 8.2%. I used this calculator to figure it out:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

If your change in tire size is anything like mine, then on the days you're getting 200 miles (according to your trip odometer) to the tank, you'd have to add at least 16.4 miles to your calculations.

Otherwise your calculations look correct (to me):

-reset the trip odometer
-top off the tank until the pump shuts itself off
-drive it
-when you're close to E, go back to the same gas station
-fill it up at the same pump until the pump shuts itself off
-divide the trip odometer miles by the amount of gallons you just put in

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO BESIDES SPENDING 400$ on a tuner?? i was thinking on that screaming demon coilpack but idk if it worth it for like 1mpg

my friends Dodge ram gets 11mpg with 4.11 5.9v8 and a really heady foot
umm..math wiz? I drove a 77 trans am in highschool Build 400, 3300 stall, 3:23 rear, holly 650 double pumper and beat the living hell out of it and still got 11.................

I drove a 85 dodge ram with a stock 318 and around 3.23 gears, and all it got was 11mpg, and it was slow. It had a 30 gallon tank, and it took 90 bucks to fill it up when gas was $3 a gallon.........

i got 13.5 on my road trip, 160 miles on the tac, 20 was city..

thats 140 miles at 13.5 mpg.thats rediculous

i dont have time to read all this right now, im in school, but i noticed u have 4WD.. did u do that mod where u lock in your hubs? get some manual hubs people say u lose 1mpg w/ manual hubs locked in, im guessing it would be the same for that mod

i got some AVM hubs friday, im gonna throw em on saturday after i install my new hub assem.. ill let yall know if i get better milage

what really gets me is the full size trucks w/ 350's getting the same or better gas milage.. and the explorers w/ 4.0's getting better, whats with that??

This is so true, my blazer I use to have wouldn't get better than 14 MPG EVER, once I put my BFG's on. This was with the speedo recal. and all. You have to look at the weight of your factory tires vs. the weight of the new ones, I mean, if they are 20 pounds per tire heavier with allot more aggressive tread, then you have not only increased rolling mass by ALLOT, but also rolling resistance! That will put your mileage in the toilet for sure.

This is why even tho I loved my BFG's I didn't buy them when this truck needed tires, I drive way too much to get that kind of mileage......

ha
man im PISSED about that..
i got the hubs friday just after i left to meet up w/ people i was going with... and i went to Katemcy this weekend, for those of you that dont know, its been called the MOAB of Texas...

and i didnt wheel because my 4wd wouldnt stay engaged.. i thought it was bc my hub was going out and it had a vacuum leak... either way it wouldnt stay in... so i missed out

got home sunday, welcomed in the Hubs, installed them today
then i bought caps to cap the vacuum lines but b4 that i tried 4wd, i drove 2miles in 4low w/ and w/o the hubs engaged and the tcase never popped out of low range!!!

moral of the story, i missed out big time because i was too lazy to drive 15miles outa my way to get the hubs

so far i like em, they fit nice and give it a nice look

Here's a question... how many of you drive with the A/C or defrost on? That will kill mileage too.
Add larger tires and 4.10's... bye bye gas mileage!

well hopefully in mid-March i'll be making a roadtrip that's gonna rack up around 3,000 miles round trip.

I'll be driving from wichita, kansas to rockholds, kentucky where i'm gonna spend roughly 8 or 9 days with my family. I'm taking bree and since she's never been out in the mountains or anything, i'll be taking her out all over the place back home. And we're driving down to James Duff Enterprises while we're there. Then we're driving back.

I'm gonna be doing a detailed trip report on this to document milage and whatnot.

I just ran a can of seafoam through the truck friday so as soon as this tank of gas runs out, i'm gonna fill up once more, run that out and seafoam it again.

before i head out on the roadtrip, i'm gonna give the truck the royal treatment. I've already bought some Autolite XP Iridium plugs, she'll get a premium Motorcraft oil change, and i'm finally getting rid of that stupid *** Fram Air Hog Filter and putting a motorcraft back in there...

i may be imagining things, but the tank of gas lasted longer once i put the hubs on..

i normally have to fill up around 200 miles.. after the light has been on

i put 4.5 gallons in the other day
so about 250 should have been empty

im at 260 and the light just came on...
i like them though, it makes me feel more secure about the functionality of the truck
