new ranger

ford have released there brochure for the new ranger and thankfully they have followed tradition and offer factory snorkels, bullbar and nudge bar among other things. They have also continued with 20 variants from single to dual cab in style side and cab chassis 2wd and 4wd.

Ford wants the US based Ranger buyers to go f150...
Somewhere a long the line they got the idea we want big trucks when what we wanted was a HD Ranger.

The new ranger is very ugly. It has the European round look to it, no offense. It is a real shame that Ford has ruined this vehicle by changing the body to the Sport Trac (pretty much). The Ranger has been such a good vehicle for that past couple of decades. The Ranger is one of my most favorite vehicles, but if they were releasing that one in the U.S. I would not buy it. I really don't know why Ford would remove one of there best vehicles from the line, it doesn't make sense. The only truck that I really like anymore is the F-250 and up, because it is the only one that still looks really good.

Remember this is just my opinion!

You are not alone in your opinion. quite a number of your compatriates agree with you. However the sport trac is a america only model and is not sold in Aus or Eur. Ford Aus and Eur tried importing explorers and they were absolute failures and were withdrawn within two years of release, Ford Aus tried the f250 next but again it failed due to it poor fuel economy and its size. The ranger sold in the USA has been a different beast to what is sold in Aus and Eur since i can remember and the previous ranger models here had already started to adopt the more aero shape. The styling is driven by market demand in these markets which is why all the competitors with the execption of the VW amarok are adopting this more aero look if they haven't already. The local Ford dealer in my town (not city) has been raving about how great it is that ford aus now finally has a ute that can trully compete with Toyota's ute (which is the top seller) and that they had delivered 5 new rangers in the first week of sales at that dealersship. So i guess that what i am trying to say is while this ranger seems to polarise us in our opionions it is really demonstrating the different tastes and expectations of different markets and individuals.

Hey that's great and i hope you get as much enjoyment and use out of it as i have of mine. Yes the ranger has grown in size here but that is because it needed to. Its competitors are all growing in size and they are predominately sold in markets where buyers can't or wont opt for a f series. The ranger in all its differnt models and styles is the only dual/single/space cab ute that ford Aus and Eur offer so they have tried to size it to appeal to as broad a range of buyers as possible. I guess for them its like saying fred only likes narrower utes but bob only likes the f150 however we can only offer them both one ute, what do we as a manufaturer do. we try to build a unit in the middle ground that will hopefully appeal enough to both buyers to make one trade up a little in size and one trade down a little in size. weather it works only time will tell and as i metioned there competitors are doing the same thing. Nissan is the only manufaturer here that are playing it both ways. They released there new bigger dual cab ute but for the buyers who want small they are continuing to sell the old model side by side with the new model for the time being.

Thanks.Don't get me wrong I am a brand loyalist and if the "new Ranger" was what was available here,I would buy one and probably love it and all the improvements.I'd kill for a deisel option.I just think that Ford will be missing out on a (apparently small) segment of the market like me who want lower priced, economical vehicle that has ability to haul with ground clearance.

I agree. But is it really that small a segment since fords competitors are not dropping there equivilent models. Or are Ford just so in love with there f series that all other models have to suffer as a consequence. I firmly believe that while they are discontinuing it now they will bring it back down the track and probably with a diesel as market pressure and the fact that people are more and more looking at fuel economy and size as purchasing factors.

I was thiking the same thing. Now that the Ranger is the"lone" true compact pickup they should do great and right now they are because when I bought mine (3 Ford dealers in 30+- mile radius) they were going fast. One of the dealers got a truck with 4 XL manual transmission trucks. They were gone in a day.Apparently they have to share with local Ford dealers when there is demand.

This is the Ranger they are selling in Brazil. I like this one better than the Ranger down under.

The Brazilian Ranger looks pretty good. If they released it here I would buy one, but not the ugly one for Europe. I do like how you can get it in 4 door style. There are too many aero styled vehicles now, that it is ridiculous. Maybe and hopefully they will re-release the Ranger in that form to the U.S. or bring back a very similar design to the one we have now. Otherwise a very poor decision for Ford.
