newbie here / tranny oil question

Thanx for the add to your site....i am about to change my transmission oil/2008 ranger/xlt/5 speed standard....i went to my ford dealer for mercon for it and was told this is no longer available ...he also told me not to use mercon V...and to just try to find a mercon equivalent ....what is the best fluid for my transmission and transfer case ?

Welcome to the forum

Many like the synthetic versions of Mercon, say shifting is smoother, check for XT-5-QSM
Royal Purple Synchromax will also work

You have an M5OD-R1 transmission(aka M5R1), used in Rangers from 1988 thru 2011, hold 2.8 QUARTS bone dry, so may only take 2 quarts on refill, and yes its OK to mix them, old with new
Transfer case is a BW1354, 1990 thru 2011, 2 PINTS so 1 quart
