No gas gage, gas smell by the bed, pictures

The gas gage for the front tank has apperently not worked for many years, according to the previous owner of my truck. It was fine with me, its got two tanks, one runs out, flip the switch and head to a gas station, fill it up and run the other tank til its empty. Repeat. That didnt bother me. What did, was that I recently started smelling gas every time I walked up to/past the truck.
Thats a big problem... so I dropped the tank to find out why.

That could be the problem... Not too clear in the picture but it looked like pile of rusty corn flakes.

There was also a crack in the float on the sender...

Size: 31.6 KB According to Ford, these were discontinued in 1999... No parts store here has been able to find an aftermarket replacement either... So I have to clean it up and re-use it. Simple enough. Its actually not in too bad shape.

Time to snag a FMS 155LPH pump out of a Stang and mod it to fit. When I put the v8 in my 84 it was an easy task. I had to bend the rod the ' float ' goes on to read the proper fuel levels, but it DID work.
An alternative! And a part number to boot! Where can I get one? Is that the only thing that has to be changed? Just bend the rod for the float?
