OGR Valve

My 2004 Ranger with the 2.3LT and 5 speed needs a EGR valve i was told the transmission has to come out to replace it. Is this true? They want $780 to do the job! Thanks Charlie

Welcome to the forum

Yes, transmission needs to be pulled back or out

If its time then do the clutch as well, also change the coolant connection on the back of the head, thats another thing you have to pull out the transmission to get at if it leaks

If you are wondering "why the heck did they design it this way?????????"

You have a 2.3l Duratec engine, which is a Mazda L engine Ford renamed
The Mazda L engine was designed to be mounted SIDEWAYS in front wheel drive cars

So mounted in a Ranger there are parts that can not be accessed without pulling the transmission
